[London, 28 April 2026] – The Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) is pleased to announce that updated ODEP Hip criteria have now been formally adopted, effective from 28 April 2026.
Two significant changes have been introduced with this update. First, ODEP now rates hip resurfacing arthroplasty devices within the Hip criteria. The previous criteria applied exclusively to total hip replacement; hip resurfacing devices are now formally assessed within the same framework. This reflects the maturity of resurfacing data and ODEP’s commitment to providing guidance across the full range of hip arthroplasty procedures.
Second, optional 20-year benchmarks (20A*, 20A and 20B) have been introduced for hip implants. These are available for products that wish to demonstrate longer-term performance beyond the 15-year follow-up required under the existing criteria. Products that have achieved a 15-year rating will not be penalised for not progressing to the 20-year benchmarks; submission against the 20-year criteria remains entirely voluntary.
The performance thresholds for all benchmarks up to and including 15 years are unchanged from the 2025 criteria. There will be no changes to the ratings of currently listed products. All existing ratings will remain in place until their natural expiry, including the year of grace where applicable.
Manufacturers are encouraged to review the updated criteria in preparation for their upcoming submissions. The updated benchmarks can be viewed on the Methodology pages of the ODEP website.
ODEP remains committed to transparency and collaboration with all stakeholders. For any questions or further information, please contact ODEP at ODEP@necsws.com.
